Domestic violence has always been a serious issue in the slums. The sad reality is the KLFM team are aware of cases within Karis families too.

Last month on the 16th November, KFLM hosted a Domestic Violence seminar at St Peter’s, Wandegeya to raise awareness, identify dangers, and to give practical guidance and support to the parents and carers. The event was well-attended with 84 carers from across our six linked churches.

The workshop was facilitated by SP Francis Ogweng, a Police Officer and Head of Laity at St Peter’s, Naguru. The carers led praise, worship and prayers to start the day. Psalms were shared for encouragement.

SP Ogweng taught about the different forms of domestic violence, root causes and consequences, giving practical advice on how to avoid abuse and who to call in an emergency (a toll-free number was provided). The carers then shared their concerns and asked questions.

The workshop concluded with a tasty lunch. Afterwards, one-on-one counselling was made available for those who wanted it. Carers who wanted guidance or advice on an individual basis were also given the opportunity too.
